4 Miles & 1 Bottle of Water Later

Palo Duro canyon

Above is a snippet of our hike to the lighthouse at the Palo Duro Canyon. The Lighthouse is more or less the symbol of the state park. Generally it takes 2.75 miles to hike from the bottom to the top of the lighthouse, however I added in the amount of time it took us from our campsite [1.25 miles]. We hiked from our campsite on toΒ the Rojo Grande trail then on toΒ the lighthouse trail.Β

At the entrance of the trail we met up on a Warning Sign which basically scared the lot of us. It basically says that this trail is the most dangerous, and resulted in deaths. They suggested that each person walk with 1 gallon of water. However majority of us only had one or two bottles, and there was no turning back. After all it was only 2.75 miles; how hard could it be?

On the way to the infamous Lighthouse there was a scenic overlook of the canyon. As well as a structure that was said to look like an Indian laying under a blanket. [I still can’t see this.]

Finally, on the last stretch of our trail to the Lighthouse.
