Green Envy

In response to the Daily Post’s daily prompt: Green

The first thought that came to my head after hearing the word ‘Green’ was ENVY. There’s an idiom known as ‘Green with Envy’ and it just happened to come into my head first. There are many other things which may represent ‘Green’, but this is the one that stuck out for me.

When someone says another person is ‘green with envy’ it usually means that a person is jealous of another person’s belongings/advantages. Envy is an easy emotion to come by given today’s world of social media. One can envious of another’s possessions (clothes, shoes, accessories, and other material things); or it could be relationships (when two people look happy together); even opportunities granted to others (a promotion, new car, ability to travel, dream job etc.) There are lots of things to be envious about, and the way in which people portray their “successes/blessings” on social media makes it easy for people to feel that way.

However, even though it may be a hard thing to do my grandmother always told me “Don’t grudge people for their things.” You may want something another person has, but you never know what they did to acquire it. Not saying everybody had to have done a bad deed in order to live the way they live, but there are cases, and you just never know. Therefore, I’m continuing to learn how to accept and be thankful for the stuff that I have, as well as working hard for those that I want.
