Today’s Girls, Tomorrow’s Leaders

Happy International Day of the Girl!!

This celebration started in 2012 as a way to showcase the needs and challenges of girls worldwide. There are currently 1.1 billion girls in the world. The day seeks to promote empowerment amongst girls and the fulfillment of their human rights.

The theme for this year is – EmPOWER girls: Before, during and after conflict.

Conflict occurs in many different forms to girls all over the world. From abuse (physically and mentally), sexual and physical violence, child marriage, exploitation to trafficking. When this happens girls are less likely to finish their education or have trouble finding their place in this world.

In my Kitchen // Twice-Baked Potato

Hey Guys!!

Hope all is well. Since I’ve been home quite a bit due to my sick leave, I’ve had more time to be in the kitchen *also since my mom is away*. This week we wanted to try something different from our usual spread, so we remembered something my mom used to do in the past. TWICE BAKED POTATO ~ it’s easy and fun to make, because you can add all the things you’d want on a regular Baked/Loaded Potato.

Here we go:

Yes, the month just got started and I’ve been admitted to the hospital for the VERY FIRST TIME and now I’m also on sick leave. Eat Outs // Seafood Saturdayyyss

Hey Guys!!

Welcome to October!! It’s a new month, and by now you know how the saying goes: “New month, new goals, new blessings etc etc” I hope it’s all good for you and me both. This month also happens to be my birth month *23 more days*. However, let’s not get into that today; yesterday I decided to try out a new restaurant and here’s a mini review.

Bay House Restaurant & Bar

Over the past few weeks the restaurant started having a special on weekends (Friday – Sunday) with discounted drinks, free shots, music from a live DJ and special menus. Saturdays were dedicated for seafood, which is one of my first loves, so why not visit? They’re open from 12p.m. for lunch, but we got there around 5p.m. for the drink specials. It’s been really cloudy the past few days, so the sunset wasn’t as spectacular as I know it could have been. The view is still pretty beautiful though.

Photo Diary // 48 hours in Bonn

What I know most of you guys been waiting on, PICTURES. These are just a few shots I took while walking around the city or commuting to and fro the meeting area. It was absolutely stunning seeing all the building designs and just how clean the city looked *like out of a movie*. Sadly, I didn’t capture as much images as I’d like because my phone is low-key trash and I also didn’t want to be seen as that person *snapping everything*.
I also didn’t try a lot of German food, so there’s no take on that.

Hope you enjoy!

Fall was definitely in the air, the trees changing color was nothing short of breathtaking. The picture on the right is a tram sign alert, so you can know when the next one is arriving. These were very cool to ride on and they run every 5 minutes.

Traveling Solo Chronicles

Hey Guys!!

Last  weekend I embarked on a journey I would have never imagined myself doing. Well at least in reality, because I’ve always dreamed of touring Europe but this was different. Two months ago I received an email from my supervisor asking if I was interested in a particular meeting being hosted in Bonn. At first I was so hesitant, because 1. I just started working at this department a month before and 2. I would be traveling to Bonn by myself!

However, as you’d know I’ve been reading the year of yes, and I felt like this was the perfect opportunity to put what I’ve read into play. So with a bit of a boost from my friends and many questions to my supervisors/coworkers I decided to take up the offer.

20170918_051623

The processing was extremely quick and within a week I had my itinerary; all that was left to do was to gather information on the meeting and learn all that I could *this included a lot of reading!*

*skips forward to last weekend* Continue reading “Traveling Solo Chronicles”

Hurricane Irma Aftermath

Hey Guys!!

Screenshot_2017-09-14-12-54-52

If you have been following world news you should know by now what happened to some of the Caribbean islands last week. What started out as a simple low pressure system quickly turned into the most devastating hurricane the Atlantic has ever seen. Hurricane Irma was being called a category 5 ++ which is definitely off the Saffir-Simpson scale. Between a category 3 and 5 a hurricane system can be said to be extremely dangerous. Given we are currently in the season for hurricanes we monitored the storms and prayed for a decrease in intensity or shift towards the north.

Thankfully Antigua (where I reside) was spared quite a bit, however on the other hand our sister island Barbuda wasn’t. The eye of hurricane Irma passed directly over the island which is only 62 square miles. With winds over 185 mph and an incredibly low pressure many of the infrastructure on the island was significantly damaged. Sadly, there was one reported fatality which happened to be 2-year-old boy.  The island also has a lagoon which houses the Frigate Bird sanctuary which is a popular attraction amongst tourists. Unfortunately the lagoon was breached during the passage of Irma. Assessments will have to be carried out to determine the damaging effects on the island’s wildlife.

After Irma’s destruction there was no communication with the sister isle and officials had to wait hours before they could get a helicopter over to the island. After initial assessments of damage done to the houses and buildings, along with the incoming threat of Hurricane Jose at a Category 4, the decision was made to evacuate the island. In two days with the help of various ferry/boat and helicopter services the island of Barbuda was completely evacuated and deemed inhabitable.

Adventure Time ~ A Photo Diary

Hey Guys!!

I can’t believe I’m only posting this now, please forgive me. However, last month I had the opportunity to visit Redonda to participate in a restoration project.

The island of Redonda exists as remnants of an ancient extinct volcano; it is also politically a part of Antigua & Barbuda. It’s currently uninhabited by humans due its nature (no running water, steepness, inaccessible by transport other than helicopters).

BTW this is all a part of my new job, so you can tell how excited I was for this opportunity. The trip was scheduled for a Saturday at 10 a.m. and once everybody arrived we went through an emergency briefing then it was time to go!!

Hey September!

Hey Guys!!!
August is finally over *after countless weeks* & we have four months left in 2017 which I really want to make count.

So it’s a new month, and I’ve started to think about what I actually want to accomplish with my blog going forward. The mission of my blog has always been the same: “To Inspire” and I intend to keep it that way.

Here’s what I’ve come up with so far:

CONTENT

This won’t change much, you’ll still see:

  • Food: In My Kitchen +  #EatOuts
  • Adventure/Island life: Traveling, partying and any other activity i do here in Antigua or abroad
  • Inspiration: Let’s Talk + Motivation Monday

With the addition of:

  • Blog Help: As I discover new ways to improve my blog I’d share them with you *it may or may not be new to you, but it may help someone*
  • In your 20s: This may factor into the inspiration headline, but we all know how stressful this decade can get. I’ll talk about my experiences and what I’ve been learning thus far.
  • Guest Posts: Collaborating with other bloggers or maybe an interview I do with someone because I want to share their story about a particular topic.

Currently I Am…. | Pt 1

Snapchat-1781918110

Hey Guys!! Hope all is well. Lately, I’ve been experiencing writer’s block and unsure of which direction to take my blog next. Nonetheless I thought of this post which I’ve been seeing quite a bit on other blogs. Basically it’s a mini life update post *which I’ve also been meaning to do since my first post-grad blog post*.

Let’s get into it, shall we?

Currently, I am….

Wearing Business casual clothes five days a week as opposed to the polo, jeans and lab coat/overalls I was wearing at the beginning of the year. Yes, I got a new job! I’m no longer a Laboratory Technician but rather a Technical Data Consultant. Sounds fancy right??

Listening to – I hardly ever listen to new music or albums; if I’m bumping any type of music it’s a mix from Dj Private Ryan or Chromatic Live.

Admiring – Fellow individuals who graduated with or before me as they make a name for themselves in which ever industry they chose. As well as those working towards a greater good. It’s nice to see young people doing more with their lives.

Determined to – Make a name for myself, both in my field of work and in the blogging world. Also just in general, I want to be known for something good.

Watching – The Blacklist on Netflix, Power and Game of Thrones *ultimately the best show on television #TeamArya* Who’s ready for the finale??

Craving – Starbucks, if it’s one thing I definitely miss from America it’s the frappuccinos. Continue reading “Currently I Am…. | Pt 1”
